François-Régis Babinet
I founded GreenSquads because I believe that action, not words, can save our planet. A "guest" in Georgia, I am proud to be active in this beautiful country
Salome Tsikvadze
Idea of the Green Squads for me in the universal and natural for every human being, as minimzing the waste is the neccessery action needs to be taken to protect the beauty of the mother Earth.
Valeri Valishvili
I became one of the founding members of GreenSquads for a simple reason: I believe that uniting committed people together is a first step to save and protect our environment.
Mari Bendeliani
Why I joined Green Squads? Because I believe that every single action can change the world and our habits, every single recycled plastic bottle can help saving the environment.
Mariam Tsereteli
When you are born a part of the universe, you automatically have an obligation to take care of it. The environment where you grow up, the air you breathe must always be healthy. New challenges require new thinking. I believe that the younger generation can learn and teach their peers to take care of the environment.Don't be shy, meet the squads

Our mission
What we think
Georgia is astonishingly beautiful. Georgia has amazingly diverse landscapes. But Georgia is desperately dirty. This is bad for plants, which cannot develop properly. This is bad for animals, contaminated by or trapped in waste. This is bad for our health, through contaminated water, milk and accelerated virus’ spreading. This is bad for tourists, who think twice before coming again to a country unable to preserve its parcel of the planet.
Over the last years, initiatives have grown up to tackle this endemic problem in Georgia. These excellent initiatives focus mostly on prevention, education, raising awareness, or convivial, but rare, clean up actions. All this is obviously necessary. But not enough.
In fact, whatever we do on prevention or recycling, soil and water suffer now and will continue so unless we take concrete action and actually remove waste. This is the heart of GreenSquads’ simple philosophy, which we summarise in three words: Doing, Doing, and... Doing.
DOING because only acts can relieve our planet. When a dirty baby cries, nice comforting words cannot replace a proper diaper change. Our dirty planet cries, it needs to be changed.
DOING because the best way to trigger behavioural change is lead by concrete example. Actual experience shows that the more we regularly clean a natural area, the less it becomes dirty again.
DOING now because any minute with less waste on earth increases chances for biodiversity. Strategies, PR events and workshops are certainly useful; but they will not help a small frog trapped in a can, a fish dying in contaminated water or a flower with plastic microfiber as its only fertilizer.
DOING because only after we have DONE we can speak up. The strongest legitimacy comes from action. Who better knows the problems than the one who tries to fix them?
What we do
GreenSquads is a network of eco-activists committed to clean Georgia by removing waste. Today, Green Squads are active in 18 municipalities throughout Georgia and are built within schools, local and youth NGOs, social enterprises.
First and foremost, consistent with our philosophy, GreenSquads’ core activity is the clean-ups. At least once a season, each Green Squad a clean-up in a clearly specified area within a given municipality. Where possible, waste collected is separated and sent to our partners in view of its recycling.
Second, based on the expertise collected through waste removing and separating actions, Green Squads advocates at local level for a better a waste management. This local advocacy will help improving the sustainability of the waste removal action and should enable the achievement of a waste-free nature of Georgia.
Finally, we implement and support all sorts of initiatives to trigger a mental change towards waste. We support citizen petitions, experiment bins separation, conduct street interviews, organise contests. Always local, always waste-focused.
